For this module, I chose to make a Quizlet. I’ve seen the site before, but never actually used it, so this module gave me the kick that I needed to do it.
I found the site really easy to use. It seems to be designed for anyone to start using right away without a steep learning curve.
I chose to make flashcards using the command terms set out by the IB organization for the course that I teach. This is something that I teach each year, and having them in Quizlet helps me to provide students with a study tool, and I can also print the cards out for a better matching activity than what I currently use.
With Quizlet, you can type the words in the list, and then you have various study tools to use. I can record audio for my EAL students so they know how the words are pronounced.
The screenshot below shows the list of terms that a student could “star” in order to group certain terms together to study.
Here’s a screenshot of a flashcard that can be printed or flipped through online.
Now that I have the account, I might start using it for math vocabulary terms. I can have students edit them to put their native language on one side and the term on the other. This is where most of my students struggle- they already know many concepts but don’t have the English to be able to communicate about it.
